PREGNANCY AND WATER - Water can be the answer to alleviating many side effects of pregnancy, aid in preparing the body for these physiological changes, and just overall make mommy and baby healthier.

Water And Pregnancy

While it is always a good idea to keep the body hydrated, there are certain times when changes in the body call for more water.
One of these times is during pregnancy.
Water can be the answer to alleviating many side effects of pregnancy, aid in preparing the body for these physiological changes, and just overall make mommy and baby healthier.
Water is an important part of pregnancy. The fluid acts as the body's transportation system, and carries nutrients through the blood to the baby.
Also, flushing out the system and diluting urine with water prevent urinary tract infections, which are common in pregnancy.
Perhaps the biggest reason to drink water is to keep the body hydrated. Dehydration in pregnant women can be very serious.
Hormones (gotta love those hormones!) change the way women store water during pregnancy, so they begin to retain water, and drinking plenty of water combats that.
Much of that water is used in the amniotic sack. Amniotic fluid alone needs to replenish itself every hour by using roughly a cup of water stored in the body.
Replacing that water will ensure the fetus is protected within the womb.
Since the blood volume increases to nearly double by the eighth month of pregnancy, it is necessary to drink even more water to compensate. Thicker blood can lead to hypertension and other cardiovascular problems.
Because dehydration can cause contractions, lack of water in the third trimester can also cause premature labor. Premature labor can have many health risks to the newborn baby.
In some cases, premature labor were stopped simply by giving the mother enough water to re-hydrate her body.
Common pregnancy discomforts that water may play a role in:
- Fatigue - Drink water throughout the day so your urine is light colored – Water’s hydraulic cycle
- Hormone regulation & Headaches - Water’s role in chemical reactions delivery and transport
- Upset stomach, heartburn, ulcers & constipation – Water’s role in digestion
- Leg cramps, swelling, dizziness and hypertension – Water’s role in fluid regulation and retention
Joint Pain – Water’s role in lubricating the joints
Pregnant women should be sure to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day, which is in addition to the normal intake of other recommended foods.
The benefits of drinking water during pregnancy include healthier skin, less acne, washing away of unnecessary sodium, less chance for pre-term labor or miscarriage and better bowelmovements.
Drinking water can, believe it or not, also help preventing the nausea known as morning sickness, as doctors recommend drinking plenty of fluid between meals.
Not only is the amount of water important but also the quality of the water being drank is just as important.
Chlorine and other contaminants are often found in tap water and even in some bottle water brands. The fetus may be sensitive to the contaminants in unfiltered water which may pose a risk to their development.
Point of use filtration systems are the only way to ensure pure contaminant-free drinking water.
Drinking water for health benefits of the mother and baby are evident.
Doctors, in fact, ask mothers to steer clear of diuretics like caffeine and alcohol, so water is the obvious alternative for fluid intake.
Also, since doctors often 'prescribe' exercise in pregnant women, fluids will be lost through perspiration. As we know, pregnant or not, those fluids also need to be replaced.

COLON HYDROTHERAPHY - The colon is the body's septic tank, meaning the place where waste and toxins are stored. When someone's colon is filled with waste and blockages, it does not function properly which can lead to more serious digestive tract problems.

Colon Health And Water: Colon Hydrotherapy
There is a new therapy alternative for digestive health- a hydrotherapy from the inside out. Karen McConnell is a certified colon hydrotherapist from Honesdale, Pennsylvania. She is a member of the International Association of Colon Hydrotherapy (IACT) and has been performing the procedure for a few years now.
In an interview with Wilkes-Barre, Pa's the Weekender written by Donna Talarico, McConnell said, "We are so built up with toxins; this helps improve health, helps us heal and gives us more energy."
The colon is the body's septic tank, meaning the place where waste and toxins are stored. A healthy colon should be clean to effectively produce vitamins B and K, and to absorb water, she explains. So, when someone's colon is filled with waste and blockages, it does not function properly which can lead to more serious digestive tract problems.
Enter colon hydrotherapy. This procedure, according to the IACT website is a method or removing waste from the large intestine by pumping warm, filtered water into the colon. This water loosens, softens and removes waste.
With a procedure like this comes apprehension, and generally speaking about the colon area is taboo to some- because of this stigma, colon health is often ignored. It shouldn't be.
Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Also, over 70-millions Americans suffer from bowel problems, spending a collective $400-million on laxatives and other related products.
If one decides to, as McConnell puts it, give their body a drink from the inside, here are the steps. The first thing to do is find a certified therapist on the IACT website.
On the day of the appointment, you cannot eat or drink two hours before the procedure. Once you arrive, you are given paperwork to sign and informational material. The procedure itself is done in a highly sterile room.
Clients will disrobe from the waste down and put on a gown. They
lie in the bed and the therapist lubes the anus. Usually he or she will let the person insert the speculum themselves. Prior to that, depending on the therapist, he or she may relax you using lavender. McConnell does.
"Colon hydrotherapy can be taxing on the nervous system," she said, explaining why she likes to relax her clients.
The speculum has two hoses- one to pump in the clean water and one to pump out the waste. These tubes run through a lighted panel so people can actually see what is clogging their insides. At first, the therapist will let water run in and out just to get the client used to it.
Then, the soak mode occurs. They will fill your intestines as much as you can handle- it does not hurt, but many will feel like they

have to pee- and then it soaks. Then, she releases after several minutes. This goes on two to three times.. During a fill, you could also receive an abdominal massage with lavender to help stay calm.
Inserting the speculum is probably the hardest part for people, but one it passes the sphincter muscle, it can't be felt. When it comes out, it also hurts a tad, some say.
Afterwards, you are sent to bathroom to empty anything that has not been emptied from the tubes. This could be an odd sensation; a liquid coming out of where it is usually solid. But, with the amount of water released, it should be clear how hydrated the body got.
In essence, this procedure serves as a flushing of impurities. McConnell says anyone can get it done, but people who are older see the best results. Usually, one will have three sessions for their initial treatment.

"A lot (of my clients) have bowel issues and already see better bowel movements. Some people do not feel heartburn or indigestion. After three sessions, skin can even improve. You are getting hydrated from the inside," she said.
This procedure is something that has caught on in Hollywood as well.
While it cannot be billed as a weight loss method, some report a flatter tummy after several sessions. But, the whole process makes a lot of sense.
Water is crucial to the digestive process. But, when intestines are clogged, digestion is hindered. This safe and effective way of detoxing the colon and intestines can be crucial to preventing those debilitating colon problems down the line.

CANCER - Whether you drink municipal water or drink from a well, additives and contaminates linked to cancer probably exist in your water.

WATER AND CANCER
..

More and more communities are becoming concerned about potential links between cancer and chemicals found in their drinking water.
Whether you drink municipal water or drink from a well, additives and contaminates linked to cancer probably exist in your water.
Although water providers are required by federal law to follow guidelines that are designed to keep these cancer-causing chemicals at "safe" levels in the water, there is much debate at what actually is "safe."
Some of the chemicals added to water to keep us healthy could oddly enough actually be contributing to cancer rates. Studies concerning chlorine and fluoride have determined high levels of these chemicals could cause cancer.
Chlorine, used to disinfect most community water supplies, produce Trihalomethanes (THMs), chemicals formed when chlorine reacts with organic material, like bacteria, in water.
The American Journal of Public Health published an article in regard to a 1992 study that linked Trihalomethanes in water to incidences of rectal, bladder and pancreatic cancer.
The largest source of human exposure to THMs in the U.S. is from the consumption of chlorinated drinking water.
Besides consuming water, other ways of exposure are from breathing in THM's vaporized in the air in the shower or the bath.
Inhalation experiments with animals revealed that high levels are toxic to the liver and secondarily to the kidneys.
Chronic oral exposure of humans at high doses results in adverse effects on the central nervous system, liver, kidneys, and heart.
In studies of human populations using chlorinated drinking water in which chloroform is the predominant THM, small increases in the incidence of rectal, colon and bladder cancer have been consistently observed, with evidence strongest for bladder cancer.
Citizens groups frequently target fluoride, which is added to the water supply of most municipalities to help cut down on tooth decay in children, as a possible carcinogen.
The Journal of Epidemiology, in 2001, linked fluoride as the genetic cause of cancer. A 1990 National Toxicology Program study determined fluoride could be the cause of cancers affecting the mouth, pharynx, colon and rectum.
Another study, with results published in the Journal of Environmental Pathology, Toxicology and Oncology in 2001, linked osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, with fluoride
Natural occurring radioactive agents like radium, uranium and radon, seep into the water supply. High levels of these elements can cause cancer of the brain and bone.
People living in rural areas with their own water wells are also at risk of drinking potentially cancer-causing chemicals.
Fertilizer, insecticides and herbicides contain carcinogens that can filter down into the water supply.
Nitrate, a by-product of fertilizer, also shows up in water supplies.
In the human body, nitrate breaks down into nitrosamines, which are potentially cancer-causing agents.
Atrazine, an herbicide used on crops, is also found in drinking water. It is suspected of causing breast cancer.
Another chemical, trichloroethylene, a solvent used in dry cleaning, is found sometimes in water supplies near facilities that do not dispose of their chemicals properly. It is considered a possible cancer-causing agent as well.
Reverse Osmosis with Steel Tank
& Cartridge Pre-Filters
Most municipalities do not have the costly technology to filter these and other potentially harmful chemicals from the water. Neither do most bottled water companies, which frequently get the water they bottle from the same sources as municipalities. This is why chlorine is dumped in the water to kill these bacteria and viruses.
Heavy metals however remain in the water and are consumed in your drinking water.
Reverse osmosis filtering is one of the few effective ways to remove potential cancer-causing chemicals from your water. It can remove 90-99% of all contaminants in your water and leave you with pure water safe from any harmful contaminants.

Water filtration systems are highly recommended to those with weaker immune systems to reduce the chance of being harmed by

toxins in the water.
We unintentionally use our bodies as filters to filter out the many toxins we are exposed to and need to be careful because the effects may appear reveal themselves in the future.
EPA has set regulations that are ‘deemed safe’ but over time it may be difficult for your body to flush out these toxins.
It is always best to be safe and have a filtration system to filter out toxins and contaminants. This will leave you with the convenience of bottled water quality water straight from your home.
