It is discharged back to the environment. As solid material decays, it uses up oxygen, that is required by the animals and plants living in the water.     A Belt Skimmer is mounted on tank tops and the unit consists of two pulleys. Care is taken that the bottom pulley is below the fluid surface level. The top pulley is connected to a geared drive and an endless belt of polyurethane material rotates on the pulleys. The bottom pulley has a self-tensioning arrangement for the expansion of the belt over time. Fluid flows slowly over the belt and leaves the floating oil on the surface of the belt. The belt scrapes via a pair of nylon scrapers near the top pulley and the scraped fluid is gathered a tank and the separator tank is specifically designed with adjustable baffles.
