buildings have seen an invasion of worms crawling out of their taps.

panic over its risk to pregnant women and young children.

Parents
were disgusted to know they had been cooking food for their children using the
worm-infested water.
Expectant mothers
also revealed their concern for the health of their unborn children as the

One
flatowner in Shijiazhuang, capital of North China's
Hebei Province, said: “I never noticed them before, but now I see
the worms - some long, some short, some red and some white.
“I feel sick when I think of the fact that I
am using this water to cook my meals.”
It is not
known if the worms themselves are dangerous or the scale of infested
devastation.
Footage
from the worried residents show tiny worms swimming around in water collected
in small bowls and basins, causing further concerns around the number of
parasites in the supply.
Meanwhile,
residents have since resorted to buying up masses of bottled water while they
demand answers to the stomach-wrenching find.
Some have
also started to invest in water purifying machine following the launch of a
police investigation.
However,
others have attempted to filter the small creatures out of the water by tying
wet wipes over the taps so they can continue to use the infested water to cook.

Police
have said that the invasion could be traced to faulty repair work recently
carried out in the vicinity.
A
policeman investigating the case said: "We
believe the underground pipes may have become infested with the worms during
recent maintenance works.”

"The pipes were
probably not cleaned properly, and the worms then reproduced after entering the
warmer waters of the buildings' water tanks."
They explained that professionals will have
clean and sterilize the water tank while the property managers advised
residents to empty the reserve tank of their water heaters.
