SILICONE LUBRICANT USES - Silicone lubricants are used in a vast array of industries. According to 3M, a highly regarded silicone producer, these lubricants are used in electrical and automotive applications, and can be used to lubricate and protect plastics, inhibit the formation of rust and reduce friction. SUPERIOR USES OF GYPSUM IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION - Gypsum powder is used for finishing the walls and concrete blocks. You could also use it for ceilings and columns. Gypsum is light and has high fire resistance and when used to finish the surface of walls and concrete surface provides a level and smooth surface. You can apply this directly. It provides an inert surface to paints and chemicals. It dries quickly and you can paint it within 3 days of finishing application. It does not show tension or shrinkage cracks and is long lasting. It shows remarkably low thermal conductivity so it can be used in the outer walls to keep the heat out. This is the reason people are choosing gypsum over cement plaster for their walls. It takes paint readily. Considering all the advantages of gypsum plaster, builders use it for their constructions and reap the benefit. The method of preparation of the gypsum is by mining the mineral, heat dried and then crushed to a fine powder. This powder finds diverse applicability such as for fertilizer, as blackboard chalk, and for making plaster board. When used for building construction, the gypsum powder must adhere to specific conditions. The setting time must be 25-30 minutes and it must have a compressive strength of 60-70 kg/cm2. The colour of the finished surface must remain super white.

WATER PURIFICATION FOR EMERGENCIES - Purification methods rid water of harmful bacteria and other microorganisms that can make you sick. Sunlight destroys microorganisms in water through is UV radiation and heating. To do this, expose a see-through plastic bottle filled with water to direct sunlight for five hours. If the temperature is high, you can disinfect a bottle of water in one hour.

LEPTOSPIROSIS IN WATER - The Leptospira bacteria can live in stagnant water reservoirs like ponds, bogs, shallow lakes, puddles, and others because these are its natural habitat - Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that we can get from animals. It can be spread whenever the animals urinated on the water, especially rodents and dogs. The symptoms rarely last for more than one week. When you have a severe case of leptospirosis, you will first get better and then get sick once again. This is now called Weil’s disease. Leptospirosis is caused by a bacteria known as “Leptospira interrogans.” This bacteria live in the kidneys of infected animals. Whenever they urinate, the bacteria ends up in the soil or water. Leptospirosis is a rural disease. But it has disseminated to become an urban epidemic in poor countries and developing nations. It is also due to contaminated food and beverages which are sold by the street vendors. Leptospirosis can be brought about by inadequately treated raw or tap water sources. Finally, it can be because of contact with infected rat populations.
